Although we are in a beautiful, secluded setting, there is a wide range of restaurants, bistros, cafes and pubs within just a few miles of Vicarage Farm.

Most pubs in the area serve food all day and there are a number of circular walks which can be timed to include a lunchtime break or evening meal – we can advise or lend books and maps when you arrive.  Here are some of our favourite eateries-

The Merchants Yard in Tideswell opened recently and offers a varied and extensive menu using locally sourced ingredients.  There is a large dining area for groups.

The Bull’s Head at Foolow – a pretty village pub just a few miles from Vicarage Farm, with a friendly welcome, excellent food and helpful service, including ‘lift home’.   A large fire and ‘bring & borrow’ book shelf encourage visitors to linger, or call again.

The Red Lion, Litton – hearty, home-cooked meals, real ales and a blazing fire in the colder weather, with a good selection of vegetarian food.

The Chequers, Froggatt – An excellent range of bar meals and a tantalising specials menu. This is a pub with restaurant quality food.

The Plough at Hathersage was Derbyshire Dining Pub of the Year in 2011 and 2013.

Lovers of fine dining can savour a memorable experience at the renowned Fischers Restaurant at Baslow Hall. This Michelin starred, family run restaurant has received many accolades both nationally and regionally.

There are several bistros in the area, catering for visitors and locals alike.  Take a look at Bar Brasserie in Buxton or Charlie’s in Baslow.

The Peak District is well known by lovers of real ale and we have several independent brewers including Thornbridge, who do tours at their Bakewell site or the micro-brewery on the Chatsworth Estate.

Tideswell village is a mile down the road from us and has three pubs, two cafés (soon to be three!) two fish & chip shops, an award winning deli, and a range of independent shops including our local butcher, bakery and fruit & veg shops.  A trip to Bakewell must include a sample from the various Bakewell Pudding shops, each claiming its own special recipe. Why not also try a sample of the genuine Buxton spa water which for the last century has flowed from the drinking fountain in the centre of Buxton – and it’s free!

If you book a break at Vicarage Farm we would be delighted to share our recommendations and experiences of the countless restaurants, bistros, pubs and cafes within a short distance.  We see it as our responsibility as hosts to sample each new seasonal menu or new hospitality venture in the area!

You can also check our local village website for information on village life, shops, pubs, etc.
